hello,

i noticed friday when i got home that one of my new recently bought keyholes was sat on the leaf of a plant and all the color is washed out.

im not sure what is wrong or what i can do

i bought 3 and 1 died within a few days and the 3rd one is swimming around and lively. currently the ill keyhole is resting on some bogwood

hi

have you tested for ammonia nitrite etc? if so what are your results. thats the 1st thing you need to check .

Do you still have the red tail shark in this tank?

tested the tank last weekend, will test again today but the stats were fine as usual and the tank has been running for a year and half.

nope, the red tailed shark i gave back and have been looking for something to replace and they heard of these guys and they are peaceful with the rest of the fish so got 3 originally

when you say stats are fine im assuming you mean ammonia and nitrites are both zero?

just tested the water and the stats are fine

ammonia @ 0
nitrite @ 0
nitrate @ 5

the one thing i did forget to mention was the fish had white spot disease after a week which was treated and has cleared up.

never get a reply from this forum!!!

but some stupid muppet always gets a reply about the same old questions like tank stocking etc

Chill out. You can't just say I have a sick fish and expect us to know whats wrong.

How are the fish now?
Do you see any spots are they flashing are they breathing heavy? How does the poop look?
How long were they at the store for? freshly shipped fish that get moved to the fish store then again to your tank are extra stressed out. That is why it is better to wait a week before getting any fish that just got into the Store.

Your water is not the problem.
What are the other tank mates?
whats the Temp of the tank?
Are they eatting?
ARe they all stressed out? could one be picking on the others?

DO YOU HAVE A PHOTO? I had keyholes and got to know what the differant colors ment. Mine also got sick once it was bacterial I saved one but lost the other carl lives 3 years after that.

Why are there 3 threads for this!?

Anyway his response to one of the other threads -

the tank has be up and running for 1 1/2 year and the other tank members include neons, lemon tetra, bristlenose, harlequins, pristella and some cherry shrimp.... so all is friendly

the keyholes were introduced in the normal way everyone does it they instantly hid which i expected.... a week later i found dead.... following week the remaining 2 had white spot disease and were instantly treated and then this week (week 3) one seems very active and fine and the other has the color washed out and resting/laid on plants etc

I gather your rather annoyed that you have lost a fish, and you have a sick fish you dont know why, understandable, but dont take it out on the members of this forum! who are trying to help. I know some of the questions seem stupid asking water stats, but not everyone tests the water and most of the time the problem is caused by poor water conditions.

Now Big eyes found a section of a thread that you mention the fish had ich (whitespot) sometimes this can get into the gills and although the fish looks clear of spots they are not. This I would guess could be the problem with the fish lying on the plants, its struggling to breath and lying still it can. I would remove the fish to a seperate tank if possible and treat again with ich treatment. If moving the fish is not possible then treat the whole tank again. If you can get hold of it try feeding some brine shrimp and garlic flake, if not soak some flake food or otherfood with some garlic as the garlic entises feeding and also helps boost the immune system. I am presuming there are no marks on the fish, wounds etc, stringy white poo indicating an internal parasite! There are hundreds of fish dieseases and to try and give a diagnosis with little information is hard.

hello and sorry for the angry reply but ive had very little help from this forum in the past....

the fish were apporx in the shop for a week before i went to buy them, and i blamed stress for the first loss....

the other tank mates are:

neons
harlequins
bn catfish
cherry shrimp
lemon tetras
pristella tetra

so all are peaceful enough!

You were fighting a ich break out? Ich will weaken a fish and then they can get a secondary infection that can kill them. My guess is they were stressed from the move then the ich took over and added more stress this could have brought on an internal infection. Also like star said just because you can't see any icb does not mean it's gone. They might still have it. I would treat lingers and bring the temp up to 80f.
