Thanks for everyone's comments. The water has been tested and the only reading that was off was the amonia at 7.2. because there was uneaten food on the moor's side of the tank. That has been removed by doing a 25% water change. My 50 gallon tank was also tested and the levels all around are OK.
So it' not the water.

Sorry, but it IS the water. Or rather, your water is highly toxic to your fish at the moment and that is very, very likely to be the cause of your problems.

Some leftover food will NOT raise the ammonia from safe levels (that means ZERO) to 7.2 with a properly cycled filter, absolutely no way unless you literally tipped a whole tub of food in or something.

You need to get a test kit for yourself ASAP because your water is slowly killing your fish. Do as big a change as possible NOW, that means as much as you can take out, leaving just enough for the fish to swim in. A 25% change means that your ammonia concentration will still be around 5ppm, which is lethal. Then until you get the test kit you need to be changing about 50% of that water every day to give your fish the best chance of surviving. Sorry to be blunt, but he's not 'wasting away', he's being poisoned, and that can be easily fixed - not by melafix or medicines, just by giving him some clean water.
