Siamese Fighter In Big Trouble

sorry to say the siamese is dead.
i have done a partial water change so hopefully the rest of the fish will be ok. i had sent my son out to the fish shop after he had taken the pics to get some medication but it was too late.
i spoke to the owner again who is upset mainly for me as he said it was typical that something like this would happen when he wasnt here. i said it happened so fast that i doubt if he would have been able to do much any way.
he did say that before he left he had noticed one of the mollys had begun to chase a few of the fish. is it possible that these two attacked each other?
as for the other fish he has told me he has 16 neon tetras, now 4 mollys and a pair of dwarf somethings, think it began with c but it was a bad line and a plec??? worried now because i cant see a single fish ( the plec ) swimming around. could it have been eaten?
they rest all seem ok.

thank you for the replies and the help.

that sounds about right. have looked in the tank but cant seem to find the plec. what sort of fish is it and what colour would it be?

It's a type of catfish. They are bottom feeders in general, and can and probably will be in the deepest darkest hardest to find area.

Colourwise, most of the ones i see are brown, but I've also seen greyish ones, so my unexperienced guess would be "earthy" colours.

just checked and he was in front of me all the time on a piece of brown rock. very hard to see if you werent looking very closely ( me )
thank you for your help.

No worries, glad to be of some help.

I'm sorry about the Fighter, but sometimes these things just happen.
If the owner knew there was some aggressive behaviour going on before he left he should have notified you about it, or sorted it out beforehand. The fish likely got into a bit of a scrap and then succumbed to stress. Nothing you could've done in the end, so don't feel hard on yourself.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, don't blame yourself it could have happened at any time and it was plain bad luck that it happened to be when you were house-sitting! In fact I came home from work to find one of my fish dead this evening for no aparrent reason, they can be a bit like that. Hopefully it was just a bit of an argument between the molly and the siamese which ended badly for them both and won't affect any of the other fish, shock can kill quite quickly.
I hope you have no other problems until your friend gets home and well done for geting to grips with a forum, you're one step closer to no longer being a 'technophobe'!

Oh, and don't worry if you can't find the plec, I doubt it got involved and I can go for days and only catch a glimpse of my plec's tail!

Jo

so could the siamese have killed the molly? there were no visible signs of damage on it.

whilst in the process of typing my last reply, i have noticed one of the other mollys seems to be a little lethargic! please tell me all the fish are not going to die! have put this one in a container in the tank and will monitor it closely. i cant decide if it has a white spot on its lip or if it is part of its markings. it is not as black as the others and has some silver flecks so it is difficult for me to tell. i have only ever really looked at the fish from afar so getting up close and personal i am wondering about everything now.

are any of the fish showing any signs of white spots?? specifically around fins and gills?

Are any of them rubbing against the scenery?

Any of them gasping for air?

The human in me is thinking it could be lethargic cos his buddy just got beaten to death..

Bless him.
R.I.P.

How are the other fish doing?
