I'm currently cycling a 35 litre (10 gallon) tank with 2 danios and i'd really like to get 2 (male and female )siamese fighter fish to go in once its cycled. I'm really not looking to have a lot of fish, because my tank is obivoulsy small, but would the fighter fish be ok in there?

I had siamese fighter fish (male and female) before and they seemed ok together...mind you, that was in a 200+ litre tank.

no way, you really shouldn't keep m,ales and females together, mabe in a massive tank it'd be alright cos they can get away from each other, but definately not in a little 10g.

you should also not keep them with quick fish like danio's, i reckon they'd fight.

you could probably keep 1 male betta with danios, or 2-3 female bettas with danios.

a male betta will chase of a female, unless they are ready to breed. in that case, the female will lay eggs and the male will help her. then he'll fight her off and probably kill her and the other fish.

the females are not agressive towards each other and nor are the danios. males will fight to death

I think it all depends on the fish i have kept male and female fighting fish together quite a few times with no problems, infact i always found the male builds bubblenests with females in the tank,

Its just like some fighting fish can be kept in a comunity tank and some others kill the fish.

Depends on the fish itself.

check out the beta board on this forum sheesh. and no you cant keep them together and 2 or 3 is to few females as the weaker will be harrased constantly

I'd recommend a male for the tank. But danios are fast blighters. Many slower moving fish find them either stressful or irritating. In fact of my G.Gouramies got so fed up she killed two. :X Might be better just just add more danios. Have a variety of them if you like, although again, I'd recommend danios for larger tanks simply because of how speedy and restless they are.
If you really want bettas there is a way you can keep a male and a female in the tank....but it involves a little work. Rehome the danios, divide the tank in two and hey presto! Just make sure the divider isn't too see-through or the male will spend his time permanently straining to impress the lady.

You may and can keep 5 females in that tank properly decorated or one male. Depending on the fish the male could have tank mates. But it might be better to go for a nicely planted tank for the boy or girls.
