It is a drinking water hose, but it says it has an antimicrobial coating on the inside to prevent bacteria, mold and mildew from growing. They say not to use regular water hoses for your DIY python bc they have a coating on the inside to prevent algae and such. Does anyone know if this is the same thing found in this particular drinking water hose. I may just return it and get the regular water supply hose for an rv.

Several sites I have looked at say normal garden hoses are treated with antifungal linings on the inside of the hose. This can leach into your tank during water changes. I'm sure most people use a regular garden hose but I don't want chemicals leaching into my tank if I can help it. I don't even use carbon in my filter unless needed. If anyone can offer some evidence it would help a lot.

I'm sure it would be fine mate, i have never had any issues with any of my tanks in over a year of using normal hose.

Why would a garden hose be coated with chemicals to stop bacteria and fungus but a hose that is designed for drinking from not have these chemicals on them which in theory would let fungus and bacteria grow on them?!

Not sure exactly what kind of evidence you expect?!

+1. A normal garden hose won't cause any problems. Not sure where your reading it will effect things from .

Ok. So that being said, is the hose I have with the antimicrobial lining fine to use? I won't bring it back for a normal hose unless it is a problem since it was cheaper than the garden hoses. Thanks for all the input y'all!

Anormal hose is fine i have been using a garden hose with my diy python for nearly 2 years without any trouble

Maybe you have a faucet that won't work for this? Is it one of the new types of pull out spray faucets?

its just a normal tap mate, and there is a wee spout that sticks down like most taps but there is no thread on it to thread the connection for the python on

Have you searched for a rubber boot with a hose clamp that you could just slip over the spigot? I know you say the rubber adapter that slips over the faucet is too small, but in the U.S. we have larger boots for plumbing applications so maybe one of those would work if you can find one.
