I got a powder blue gourami the other day and have fallen in love with him. At the same time I also bought 4 large angels who like to pick on him. I want to get 2 more blue gouramis so he won't be on his own but I have heard that they will fight. At the fish store they are all in the same tank. Is it a good idea or not. Toni

6 glass cats
1 red tailed shark
3 bala sharks
1 fire eel
4 angel fish
1 twig catfish
1 upside down catfish
1 catfish
1 yo yo loach
2 clown loach
1 ghost knife fish
1 frog
1 powder blue gourami

Dwarfs do not make good tankmates for angels - as you've discovered. It would be better to return the dwarf or else swap it with the molly you have in your 10 gallon.

BTW, many of the fish you have in your tank are unsuitable. For example bala sharks require at least a 125 gallon and clown loaches, eventualy, a 90. I'd suggest you go through your list and look the fish up and see how you could improve the situation. You certainly shouldn't be adding any more.

yes thanks to pets mart when I started out I ended up with a hodgepodge of fish. I found a wonderful aquarium store now and we are slowly trading out the fish that don't work. The bala sharks are babies right now so I am going to sell them when they get bigger. And yes the situation with the angels is just getting worse. My molly in the small tank is sick right now so I don't want to put the gourami in there. And it will be awhile before I can return any as I live 3 hours from the fish store.

I see - is there any way you could seperate the dwarf from the angels? Maybe a breeding trap or tank divider?

I will see if I can order one online. I am also having trouble with the gourami please read gourami help in tropical fish emergencies no one has written back yet.

I know this is not to do with the gourami, but i noticed on your stock list :p your YoYo Loach (Pakistani Loach) should be in a group of 3. :good:

I guess no you shouldnt get anything more. Your tank i guess it a bit overstocked.

You probably have the more colourful male and it's not ideal to get another even in a larger tank. The females are less colourful. BTW, if you check out the gourami threads then you will see that there are a huge amount of cases of an ulcer forming just to the left side of their mouth. Apparantly it is down to farming methods, making Dwarf Gouramis develop this condition after a few months followed by death.....here is mine
