Hi
I'm setting up my new 5ft tank in the same spot as my old 3ft. I need to move the 3ft and therefore take all the water and fish out. Would it be ok if i bought a big plastic bin to put the fish and water in till the new tank is setup.
The 3ft was over filtered so i'm using the same filters plus all the gravel from the 3ft and some new gravel. Does any one think that won't be enugh to cycle the tank?]THanks.
Sorry about the longness of the post.
Please reply i'm doing it in two days!!!

The fish to be moved are two oscars and a pleco. Will they kill each other in the bin or will they be to stressed to fight?
Should i do anythng to make the bin fish safe?

they should be fine in a bin for a few hours
they shouldn't fight like you said, they will be stressed.

I would put the filter in the bin and let it run while you do the swap so everything is top niotch when you are ready to make the swap

if you can't save all the water, i recommend you acclimate the fish as when you buy a new one

When i was moving my oscar and plec i put them in a bin of water with a heater.... although they did get stressed they were fine eventually. As long as they're not in there for much more than a few hours i can't see that you'll have a problem!

we just cycled our new 350l tank with just the filter media and bio from our Fluval 304 running on our 180l.

You will be fine using the gravel as well ;)

thanks guys i just got the tank and this thing is freakin huge.
I'll take some pics and post in the pictures forum when i'm done.
Hopefully by this afternoon. Its 10 am now...

well, if the fish are big, you need to be very carefull, as moving a large fish, especially one like an oscar or pleco will be very stressfull for bigger fish than small ones, as it is harder to move the large ones.

and make sure the bin is a big one if they are large, not one of those small 5 gallon ones, like a 20 gallon if they are 6 plus inches Id say.

well all done :D
the fishes are in there new home and loving the extra space. Oh and guess what?
They sent me a bigger tank by mistake so i got a 116 gallon instead of a 94 gallon.
i'm sooooo pissed off right now, not!
i bet they will be when they find out though? "but its already set up" with a big grin on my face

lucky you!my 200gal was advertised as a 150gal so i got it cheap ^_^ we NEED pics asap
