ok so i need a nice simple checklist because i am going to buy a red veiltail betta what i need to is as follows...

1 website that delivers to door and has quality bettas
2 tank i am limited with sapace and cash so somthing small and cheap
3 heater thinking 25 w or a mini heater
4 decor plants and ornaments
5 filter

oh and my mum sais if its possible get a stylish tank shes likes the fluva spec or the fluval edve but they are quite deer any suggestions are welcome guys thanks.

Fluval Edge is a nice looking tank but awkward for maintenance and cleaning.

Fluval Spec is much easier to maintain but being a small tank. Might be difficult for you to maintain since the small volume of water is susceptible to swings in parameters.

I'd say you might be better looking for slightly larger tank, from 40 litres / 10 gals minimum but 60 litres / 15 gals being a bit better for a Betta tank.

Lots of them around for reasonable prices, depending on your budget.

Look at second hand tanks online, though you might not get delivery to your door

1. Is there a reason you want a Veiltail Betta?  I would recommend the Plakats as they seem to be a lot stronger swimmers, following this a Crowntail.
2. I have both the
a) Fluval Spec and the
b) Fluval Edge (both sizes)

a) is a great little tank for a Betta and a few snails, however I do find it evaporates water quickly so you need to keep an eye on it and top up regularly.  I bought mine on-line for a good price (as my LFS did not have stock in for a few weeks) so let me know if you want more info.  Here is the Fluval Spec I set up for my boy and Rabbit snails.

b) I like the look of these tanks yet as per the previous poster they are a bit more of a challenge to maintain, for that purpose I would not recommend them to beginners.  You have enough to get used to without the added hassle of a difficult entry point for the tank.  This shows you the transition from another tank (AQUA Start - which you may wish to look into), to the larger Fluval Edge.

There are indeed some good deals on-line, however take care and do your research so you get a good deal.  One tank I have that is great for the Betta is the UFO350 Corner tank, which I picked up for £20

I installed an external filter after a few different changes of internals.

3. See the heater I recommend in the Fluval Spec set up.  I would avoid any that have pre-set temperatures as these can be limiting in what you may wish the temperature to be should you need to medicate etc.

4. If you are having a Betta you need ornaments with round edges, and silk not plastic plants, and ideally live plants.  Anything with a rough edge will tear the Bettas fins. Have you read the Betta Care on this forum (look in the menu section at the top)?

5. Filter choices depend on the tank you finally decide on.

Where are you in the UK i.e. what region?

Look forward to hearing more ...

yes i want the veiltail because my mum truly loves the fish and whats the corner tanks volume does it ha heater filter and light with or even just light and filter i live in the uk coleraine northern ireland to be exact thanks for your help

Corner tank is made my Aquaone,

The one I have, the 350 is 30L. Google it and you will find a lot more info. I believe it comes with a power head and under gravel filter, as well as light. Mine has an external filter, as it was second had filtration was missing, and after a period with an internal filter I switched to external which I prefer due to the amount of media within them.

Just a note in regards to the heater, get your tank first and then get a heater that will cope with the tank. keep in mind that a heater can raise the AMBIENT temperature about 10 degrees. For example if your normal room temperature is 20 degrees C (coldest) then a standard heater can keep your tank at 26 degrees C. However if your home plunges to 10 degrees in winter at night, then you will need a bigger heater to keep it at 26 degrees.

I had a 25W heater for my 28L betta tank but it wasn't enough to keep the tank at a steady 26 degrees in winter, so I changed to a 55W and it's steady now all year round

Also you will want a thermometer so you can see what the water temperature actually is. Heaters are normally a little bit out.

Try second hand online sites, you can often pick up a real deal from someone who killed their fish and lost interest. I got mine for $50 - tank, light, pump and the 25W heater!
