my local chinese take away has a tank on their counter, looks about 10-12 US Gallon.
so far i have spotted in it, a 5" bala, at least one swordtail, a red tailed black shark, another 4-5" chunky silver fish i can't quite identify, some platys, several others, enough that some fish have to sit in the corners in order to wait for some space to move, this is what i've seen so far from outside, i'm too disgusted to go inside and have a closer look. but what can you do about that??!

whats the most shocking case of shove-as-many-fish-in-the-tank-as-possible you've seen?

Maybe it would help if you spoke to the owner/manager about it? It might just be a case of ignorance & they don't know much about tank size and fishes?

If that doesn't work and it's really bothering you try contacting a local Animal Welfare/SSPCA office and see what they say.

 sorry just realised at your end of the country it would be the RSPCA.

i could try. we shall see. failing that, breaking and entering and kidnapping the fish is another option!

Not as bad as my local Thai :/ where they have a 10 gallon tank with 4 massive fancy goldfish - they can hardly turn around and just "lie" in the water :-(

there is a new sushi restaurant opened across the road from this chinese, with 2 beautiful enormous tanks, havent had a close look yet, they're either cichlid (fake marine looking) or marine. very big tanks.

so not all restaurants or take aways are bad.

Try not to think about the reason why that one is not overstocked.. A sushi restaurant did you say? :X :X :D

mmm, maybe want to check they've no white spot / velvet /dropsy / worse before eating in that particular sushi place!!!

Heh, I have a whole gallery of awful tanks.... Couple o 'communtity tanks (including, for instance, a 2g, 2" wide 'picture frame' tank with, ooh, 1x 1.5" angelfish, 2x 1.5" honey gourami, 1x 1.5" fantail and a 3 or 4 inch angelfish), couple of goldfish tanks (eg, one of those awful 1.5g Pets @ Home jobbies with a 3 or 4 inch common goldfish, and god awful decor), and some betta tanks (including the one and only attempt at a tank with several male and several female bettas, no dividers, hex tank and no hiding places, a set up photo [set up in the sense that they were put together for the photo :S] of one of those dual betta hexes, without the divider, with 4 male bettas in and a 4" or so diameter, 2ft high vase with lucky bamboo and a male betta). And guess what... all the betta ones are from this forum, and a couple of the others...

i reported the tank at the takeaway to the RSPCA
there is a bala shark in there, about 5 inchs long, the tank is about ooo 12-15 us gallons? with about 20 other fish in there, i've definately seen a swordtail and a very large something which could well be a gourami.

i've requested an outcome, so once they've completed the case

will let you know if the tank disappears/improves or not!

well hey, its either put to sleep, or lives in hell in a fish tank this [-] big riddled with disease.

Good luck :good: and well done for at least taking some action. I haven't been to my Thai takeaway for ages, but went in there the other day and the tank is gone - wonder why -_-

Anyway - I know what I'd choose if someone gave me the option between death or eternal life in a shoebox.

I was at some Asian restaurant and they had a brilliant reef tank. It was so amazingly decorated, and there was only like three fish in there. One of them was a nemo style one. The tank was 55 gallons I think.

hmm makes one of my local restuarants seem like gods.

they have a pond in the middle of the raunt, maybe something like 500 gallons maybe more. They have koi in it.
