As you know I was attempting to spawn Kimono and his sister again this weekend. As it seemed some eggs had disappeared yesterday, we decided that we would remove him before we went to bed early hours of this morning.

I floated him in his tank as I always do. Then after a while I added some of his tank water, at which point he was fine. Left him a little while longer and when I went to release him he was dead :-( :-( I pushed him around abit in the water in the mad hope that he might suddenly come back to life. I'm absolutely heartbroken at losing him especially having bred him and raised him to the beauty that he was. He was perfectly healthy so I just don't understand what happened. Bronze thinks it may have been stress or some kind of sudden organ failure.

I've lost fish in the past but none have had the effect that losing him has :-(

:rip: Kimono

Off the top of my head i think he was about 8 months old. Very very strange. The tank he was being acclimatised to was his normal tank, divided with 2 other males. The other were, and are still perfectly fine, no issues with water either. I gave him a good looking over and can find no signs of illness. His colour was still good, gills looked fine etc etc.... So i can only summise that it was a sudden organ failure. If it were stress related i would have thought he would of deteriorated slower and showed signs of illness?

I guess its gonna be one of those things with no real reason or answer.

Oh Netty I am so sorry to read this :( Sending virtual hugs and love.

Sarah xxxx

Poor Kimono :( I know it will not have been anything you could have prevented, Netty - just one of those things. how gutting. :(

Aww  *Hugs* sorry for the loss. He is such a handsome boy too.

Thanks everyone. I still can't believe this has happened. As Bronze said he was only 8months old and in perfect health.

We have 3 fry from his spawn a few weeks ago plus eggs from this spawn that I'm hoping will hatch soon. I really hope some of these guys make it as otherwise it will feel like I put him through the stress of spawning for nothing.

I still have his brother Keaper and 2 sisters and a half sister. They are all lovely but he was just a bit more special

Sorry for your loss, such a beautiful fish! I'm a firm believer in fish can suffer with very similar sudden failures most creatures do such as strokes, heart attacks etc etc. I'm guessing something like this.
