It does not even look like the same fish. I really did not think he would get this pretty.

Have any of your fish colored up so much they look like different fish? If so I would love to see before and after photos.

Thanks
Yeah he is a good one. He is Doing awesome totaly worth the $20. I have him in his own 20 gal to grow him Out a bit with no stress. I think that's the trick. keep them in a tank by them self till they grow to 3" or so. This way you know they are eating and no one is picking on them. I was talking to some hardcore ebjd breed. He said the strains are getting better breeders are working on makeing stronger lines. Where before it was all about color and that was it. They did not know much about what it took to breed the blues. So they were very inbred. But they have it figuared out more. Breeding these fish is a lot of work.

It was Said that the imported ebjd that were much weaker then our homegrown American fish.

$20

The reason why i have never got round to keeping one is because there is only 1 shop in a 100 mile radius from me that sells them (out of about 60 shops in that radius) and they charge £70 ($140) each for 1" poorly coloured sickly looking fish with a non return policy!

Grrrrr you guys get all the best stuff lol...a guy in another thread just bought a few Red Texas for $12 each...they cost £250 each here for 1" specimens ($500 per fish)

Glad yours is doign well tho, my mate did by one of the £70 EBJDs and it lasted a week :( he tried to take it back to Maidenhead Aquatics and they told him no chance of a refund because they are a risk...

One day!!!! one day i'll have one (at a decent price).

Well as you can see just because the fish does not have good color at the store does not mean a thing. Lots of them are deformed the other one in the tank with mine had a messed up fin. That stinks about the price. Well these have just stared being bred they have only started breeding ebjd for maybe 5 years I think. They are a new fish. Don't worry I'm sure soon enough the good ones will come across the pound.

I got mine from MA and it cost £30  he was about 2", maybe bigger. They had about 4 in at the time. I put him straight in with my other cichlids, and he's doing great, he eats well, and can hold his own against the others! He's about 3.5" now, and has always been a beautiful electric blue, was never pale.

They regularly stock them too. Also, they haven't had issues with them being weak, so I wouldn't think they'd have a no return policy on them either.

Different shop....MA is a brand, they are all completely separate lfs's with different pricing plans and different warehouses they stock from.

Kinda offended that you would think i'm lying also.

Yeah it is a fact that many of the EBJD are weak the Blue gene is just a weaker one. Many of the really young ones do die for no real reason. many EBJD keepers don't mix them with other fish due them being so prone to parasitise and illness.

BUT with in just a year or so the strains have gotten stronger due to better understanding of how to get this color morph.

These guys do change color like ALL cichlids. I have seen my severum turn BLACK due to stress and illness when I first got her.

Stunning, nice pics too.Not a blue JD, but my bocourti have coloured up from grey to bright, sparkling orange with green tones.

Just seen an ad on Aquarist Classified that my favorite LFS has these for £12 each.... I may not come home empty handed tomorrow...

Do you have any Before and now photos I would love to see them.

Wills The EBJD are great fish and are beauties. 12 pounds = 19 US dollars. Thats about what i paid for mine. Some of the ones being imported from Asia are not as good. If they are only 1" big it would be best to grow him out a bit in his own tank. So you can make sure he is feeding and gets nice and strong before you add him to other fish.

Where did i say you were lying? I was just sharing my experiences from my lfs, maybe I was even saying how lucky I was if that's the price elsewhere in the UK! so no need to be offended.

Snowflake, I meant to comment on how gorgeous your JD is, he's a little stunner!
