Are there any fish that actively shoal?

At the moment my tank has guppies, cories, tetras and danios - 7 of each. But for some reason they never seem to be together, they are much happier being as spread out as possible and having hardly anything to do with each other! It looks like a great big mess of fish, haha.

Basically, are there any fish that will actually stay together? I don't expect them to be permanently together, but I would like at least one group that seems to enjoy the company of it's own kind.

Try neon tetras if your tank is mature or try some harlequin rasboras, i love em!

In many cases shoaling is a defense mechanism, and as such many fish stop shoaling once they feel secure and comfortable. This by itself is a good sign.....

I have heard though that the rasboras are tight shoalers, so try those.

Red eye tetras.... they will occasionally shoal with the serpaes and the black phantoms, but that's usually just for the first 1/2 hour after the lights come on. Then they tend to just shoal by themselves. Although, I have to admit, I just love seeing them all swimming together. Beautiful patterns and colors. :good:

many barb species will happily shoal all day, particularly tigers, striped, gold, and roseys, from what I've seen.

of course there is always tetras :) but gold pencil fish or just plain pencil fish shoal well and they look really awesome together. i find that even as they settle into their environment, they like to hang out around each other still. they dont do this all the time. often you will see them all scattered around the tank but then after a while they gradually meet back up again. theyre quite cool little fellas :)

Do red tailed sharks shoal?

i dont keep them myself but i stock them at my shop. from what ive seen so far, when they are small they hang out a lot together. as they grow, they start to slowly spend less and less time shoaling until they are at the stage where they dont at all really

Red tailed black sharks don't shoal, you can't keep them together they'll kill anything thats related to them....
I think...

RTS dislike each other when they reach maturity
