Shipping/transporting Fish

In the middle of march I will be moving some of the fish in my current tank from california to colorado. I want to make sure I get it right when I am moving the fish.

My thought is to have my local fish store bag them and then I will put them in a box with a foam lining for insulation, but how do I keep the temperature high in the box. they will be in the pressurized cabin on the airplane, so that should be fine, but what do I use for heat? any advice from people who have successfully shipped fish in the past would be appreciated.

My goal was to check them like you would check a dog, but now I am being encouraged to over night them. any thoughts?

ry to get quotes from overnight courier services with guaranteed delivery before midday. Fish shouls be OK with a heat pack as has already been recommended.Less hassle than trying to check in fish at airport - and what if they refuse allow your fish on plane???
Alternatively, unless they are rare/expensive fish or you are emotionally attached to them, why not try to rehome/sell them now and make a fresh start in your new home, less stress for fish and easier for you.

Its the same as if your posting fish,

bag up fish with a little water and lots of oxygen
, add some ammolock to keep ammonia down and dont feed for two days before, you could even lower the temp of your tank to acclimatise the fish.

pack in poly box with bags of warm water and a heat pack, if you did next day delivery and posted them the day your flew, you would be there when they are delivered.
