Shark's Remodeling Journal

HI, im back!

long time no post!

well i dont have any new pictures but just a new questions

i have gaps in my java moss carpet where the sand shows but no more rocks to fill it, any fast way to cover up those gaps? to make a complete carpet

Hmmm....not sure what to tell you. Perhaps you could move the rocks with the java moss closer together -- towards the left. This will leave some open space in the middle. Maybe you could then add some 2-3 inch high plants in that section...

lol, well the pics didnt turn out too good, but now i ahve another question

i heard that hair algue is caused by low Co2 if so then fine ill just put 2 2l bottles on my 35g

Well heres an update!

horrible hair algue outbreak ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

java moss carpet nice but i still have to fill in the gaps

so i have 1 2l bottle but to kill off the algue im thinking of adding another 2 l bottle

will that be sufficient to kill the algue? of course with liquid ferts and water changes to

alright well im gonna do that tonight and ill take pics hopefully

Alright well i didnt bother taking pictures of my tank but i will later on tongiht

but since i had the algue outbreak and a low level of algue in general i made my own co2 system which i hope works good

i while back someone used an old ashtray to let out the co2 well i did the same basic thing but with the end of a 2l bottle

i just dug it into the sand and drilled two holes at the top; one for each 2l bottle of airline tubing

and i drilled i tiny tiny little holes at the bottom of the co2 so it comes out slowly

here it is! C02_on_tank.JPG

and when its on the tank top

C02_set_up.JPG

and inside the water

Inside_of_tank_C02.JPG

hope its not over kill

im gonna look at the water parameters very closely

usually at the peak 1 2l bottle gives my 35g about 20-25ppm but it goes down after a couple of days

so well see

any suggestions ppl?

i feel like most of all the replies are me :sly:

It's been a little slow, but I like your updates so far Shark. Keep up the good work. Reading your CO2 mess-up was funny, if you don't mind. 107ppm! That was great!

What exactly is it you are after? Do you have an end goal, a vision of what you'd like to see? Have you seen any aquascapes that you like that you think you could acheive?

It is very possible to learn from others without asking questions. You may get a better response if you display some practical self help i.e. showing us a layout of what you'd like and asking the appropiate questions. To simply keep asking "what next?" may be interpreted by some as being a little lazy. I realise you're probably fairly inexperienced and I totally sympathise, I was there too a couple of years ago. But after reading, reading and a bit more reading with the occasional asking of questions I obtained the answers I needed.

Apologies if this sounds a little tough. Your tank has a lot of potential but I think the best way forward is for you to decide what you want.

This is a really good point IMHO. People on other forums I'm more active on are not prepared to do any research either, just ask vague questions. I understand it can be frustrating when starting a new hobby but people need to help themselves too. In my experience the best way to learn is to find things out for yourself, with a little bit of guidance from more experienced people along the way.

alright thx for the feedback guys!

dont worry no offence, its the internet...its not ruining my life anytime soon

and well i think i have my tank at where i want it but im just battling with all the algue and the java fern not growing fast(i knew it wouldnt but i hoped.

and also if u must know my little diy co2 setup has been giving me problems since after a while the part in the bottom of the tank keeps floating back up, i put rocks on it but it still managed to make it back up

so this weekend im gonna drill bigger and closer holes so there isnt as much force.

bye bye now

Well IMHO you need a better way to diffuse the CO2 this is why you are getting the hair algae more than likely, the method you are using is giving you insufficient CO2 levels.
