I so badly want a pair of blue rams but all I hear is how weak they are
My parameters are great I am not worried about the quality of my water, shall I give it a go? They are £8 each in LFS.

I have heard all the bad things about rams, but I lowered my pH and hardness a little and decided to give them a go. I bought a male and female, drip acclimatised them over 3 hours and then put them in the tank. The female seemed ok for half a day and then started just hanging at the surface, the next day she died. The male is still doing really well, eating well and seems ready to spawn (unfortunately with my krib) I am thinking about getting a new female for him but after having just lost a £10 Ram I'm thinking of waiting a little bit.

Doesn't really help you but I guess the point is they do seem much less hardy than most but you can get lucky or unlucky!

A little over rated, a guess if they breed they may be a little interesting else they have very little else going for them apart from being sensitive :)

I think the rumours are so over the top. Rams are more hardy than they're given credit for and as long as your water parameters are fine then I would give it a go.

I think alot depends on the quality of the stock, ie if you have some good local bred fish then chances are they will be ok.

Bolivian Rams are much better suited to English tap water and I've got four with no probs. One even survived a trip to the fish shop and back to have a pebble removed from his throat, tough little guy!

aww bless I don't like bolivian rams though, they aren't nowhere near as pretty as the germans imo

When I kept rams, they seemed to be much hardier than what you hear. I moved them into so many different tanks and back (as I was just starting and getting more tanks) and they survived all of that. They even spawned without me even trying. Good luck with 'em!

im also in this problem, heard so many bad things about Rams, i really facny blue rams but heard they are REALLY weak, but when the 212l is up and running well ill definatly give them ago,

about 2 years ago, I had 6 GBR and could not get water conditions right. I lost 3 of them within the first week.A personal experience, not a scientific fact.

I've tried keeping German rams quite a few times. They all die after a few months at the most.
No more. No matter how pretty they are.

Such a shame, they are so beautiful and always look like they're smiling

I've tried keeping Rams and had no success at all with keeping males. I tried different stores in case of a bad batch but just had no joy at all.
You could try some of the Dwarf Cichlids like Apistogrammas, amazing colours and great little fish.
