Such a shame, they are so beautiful and always look like they're smiling
try some Apistogramma cacatuoides in triple red, they look better than rams,

I'm sorry, but the ram is king of pretty when it comes to dwarf cichlids.

If I ever saw a fish like this then I would have to make room.

Tripple reds still look good, but ram has it for me everyday

*Though, alot is down to photograph skill and individual fish*

Beautiful photos Shroob! :good:

You could try the "Orange Flash" Apisto. Cacatuoides, colours are a lot more intense than the photo shows.

My rams have been great, I only have the female now though because the male had started beating up other fish in the tank, the female is still going strong and even she has beautiful colours. Never had any health problems with them at all, they even tried to breed the day after I bought them - wrecking all the plants in my tank clearing a little spawning site  .

I wouldn't go for any of the long-finned or baloon rams though...those guys are much more sensitive.

I would recommend anyone with the right parameters give them a try - it's all down to the supplier of the fish, it's not just a case of rams being extremely sensitive.

Quality of this pic isnt as good as the long-finned ram one (old camera, cant take a new one as I don't have the male anymore :(), but I prefer the hardier regular blue rams:

I have a 70 litre tank with cherry barbs and harlequin rasboras and was thinking of keeping just a single ram, Bolivian or German. Would this be ok? I dont want a pair cause they may breed and dont want to over crowd my tank. Would a single male be better than a single fem  ale??

When keeping Rams alone it doesn't really matter what sex they are but males are generally bigger and more colourful.
