Hello all!

I've just become the proud owner of two smiling acaras. I asked for a male and a female but they were so young it was difficult to tell with any real confidence! One of them changes colour quite regularly from white to grey and has slightly pointier fins than the other. It was also showing off in the mirror that is the side of the tank yesterday and was showing some amazing colours, blue, red, lilac, yellow and green. I'm hoping that he's a male and the other one, who just stays white and yellow, is a female.

Anyone got any good way of telling? They are already my favourite fish in my tank.

2 Pearl Gourami
2 Acara

5 Neon Tetras
6 Glowlight Tetras

I think you are just going to have to wait to tell for sure. They are awesome fish I really want one but none of my lf ever have them. Your lucky you got some. Good luck and sounds like you might have a pair but only time will tell for sure. You should post some photos.

I will take some pics and upload them soon. I had no idea until I got them home how beautiful they were. Especially the "male" when he's showing off to his reflection. I would recommend my LFS as they have 2 left but it's quite a long way to come for a couple of £5 fish!!

On the downside, they are absolute predators when any of my livebearers give birth so I've had to buy ANOTHER tank to use as a maternity ward!

They are definately the most beautiful fish in my tank and I'm so glad I chose them.
