Sexing Jd's

Fin shape/size is generally a good indication with Jacks, altho care should be taken as with all cichlids you get some anomalies to that rule. The cred colouration on the end of the finnage isnt always a clear indication either, as i have had male and females both with and without it, thats just down to genes i think.

The spangling on the gill plates is generally a good way with Jacks. The male having more so - generally.

Look at the dorsal fin, if its longer and more elongated this is usually the case with males :) Using pictures of my two to distinguish between male/female may not help. Due to my male being EB and my female being regular :p Lol


I'll say it again because i do still have the same belief. I think yours to be a male Lesley.
