These 2 I got a couple of days ago. I ordered two males but suspect I have a pair.... The coloration is very different, so is fin shape plus the brightly colored yellow one tends to do a dance by violently shaking its head and body when the other is near... Any insight would be appreciated... If bigger or better pictures are needed please let me know... Thanks..

The male will be more brightly coloured, what size are they? Sorry cant see the pictures to help. I have 3 rainbows, the two males are much more coloured, my female is quite dull in comparison.

That exactly it they are about .2.5" - 3". One is a striking yellow why other is mostly.blackish with very subdued yellow.

I'ts difficult to tell from the pictures but the first looks like a female and the second a male the fin looks a lot longer but saying that the i can't quite see the real sharp point. Both fish look like they're in breeding colours, i have an established breeding pair and a young pair that have spawned a few times but not managed to raise any fry yet, but they all go that colour shortly after they've established a territory which they are defending just before they spawn. Before this they normally display their best colours the male slightly more than the female, really vivid yellow/orange with the blue in the fins being very noticeable
