I was wondering if there was any way to sex Red Snakeheads? Thanks.

would love to see a 'tank' big enough for this species :good:

Tricky fish these.
I had a very active one that was brilliant to watch when it was growing out in one of my tanks.
They can and WILL kill anything that takes their fancy, so as all of my tanks house some quite rare fish, and knowing that they simply are NOT suitable in home aquaria, it went into the pond.

At that point it became quite uninteresting as never get to see it.
Throwing live Koi into the pond just saw a spilt second splash and all over.

Many people ignore advice given on these fish, and end up regretting it.
They DO get VERY VERY large, VERY quickly and are a pain in the #16##### to keep.

My advice to the OP (from a real owner) is unless you have the means to house it properly (at least 9ft x 4ft x4ft) right now, pass it on.
Anything smaller than that is just going to make an unhappy fish, that will not be as active and happy as it should be.

Also don't forget the crazy filtration. These things poop like dogs when they get over 2ft. It is big and messy.

You were warned...

I have the filteration covered and tank size ( will have to upgrade when it gets 2 feet). But I agree with everything that has been said, he is brutal messy. I have kept many big fish before, but he tops them all. But what I'm having the hardest time with is the feeding, he will not take anything other then feeders.I tried getting him to take shrimp, worms, chicken/beef heart but no luck. Buying feeders every week is getting expensive, not to mention having to maintain the feeders tank as well. Doing a 30% water change on the feeders tank every 3 days pretty much.

They don't take well to ANYTHING that isn't alive.
And yes it becomes expensive.
I was buying live Koi large to feed mine.

Brutal lol. I posted the problem before and it was suggested to not feed him for a couple of weeks, the he should take prepared foods. I waited three weeks and of course he started to beat himself and everything in the tank up trying to get out. So I gave up on him becuase I didn't want him getting broke up.

What did I do with the Snakehead? I tried waiting him out, but with no success. So now he gets 3-4 medium goldfish a day. Oh I just read my post again LOL, sorry I seen that I mentioned giving up on him. I just ment that I gave up waiting for him to take prepared foods, so now I'm back to feeding him goldfish.
