My Dad's bought 2 severums for a 80 Gallon tank and they bickered for a week or so. They were both black with light spots on their bodies.

He decided to take the more aggressive one back to his Local fish shop. A few hours later the remaining Severum had lighted to a dark green and was now displaying some stripes of black and more spots. He is quite happy and has got even lighter?

Anyone know what this colour change means? Is this a territorial thing?

I'm no expert but I think it has more to do with stress. My sevs are the opposite. They'll get really light when I'm working in the tank doing water changes and whatnot, and then they turn darker a few minutes after I'm done. They also get darker when it's feeding time. Mine are juvies, so maybe a change comes about later. How big is your Sev?

These were pretty much completely black. They stayed that way until he wasn't being chased. The Severum is between 3 and 4 inches in length.

i wouldn't worry much about the color change...My Sev will change colors for different reasons...When i feed him he will usually display his bars and lighten up quite a bit...but when hes scared ( water change etc..) he will go into a dark green. Dont worry about it so much...perfectly normal behavior and each fish will display different colors for different reasons.

^^ well said, sevs show there barrs as an aggresoin thing, they doo it so they look "tuff" lol mine flash them on and off alot
