Hi guys im new to the world of aquariums and would really appreciate some help. so here goes

1. Is this combination of fish ok. So I can adjust. None of the fish have attacked each other and I have had over 2 months
2 x cory
1 x angelfish
1 x African dwarf frog
2 x neon tetras
5 x Guppy's (I think Pictures below if you can name.)

2. What would be the best combination of plants to add to this set-up as I currently don't have any. Plants that would benefit the fish not looks.

3. My African dwarf frog keeps ramming him self between the filter and glass a top of tank is this normal.

Appreciate any help i can get thanks guys nd girls

Hi - how big is your tank? There is a possibility that the angel will eat your Neons when it grows large enough. It seems hit or miss and comes down to the personality of the angel, I think. I had an angel that grew up with Neons and then they started to disappear....

Nice guppy and angel pics, by the way. Great looking fish!!

Can I ask a few questions?

How big is this tank? As angels grow quite large and need a tank that is at least 18 inches tall.

You say '2 neon tetra' but there are 4 in that pic; have you lost some?

Was this tank cycled, and if it was how did you cycle it?

Do you have any test results on your water you can post?

I agree with minnnt, the coys and neons need to be in groups of at least 6 to be happy.

Java fern, anubias (both those need to be tied onto a rock or stone and not planted in the gravel), vallisneria and amazon swords should grow well for you, but you must get some plants or caves in there. Living in bare tanks is quite stressful for fish; you and I know there are no predators in you tank, but your fish don't and they'll feel much happier if they know they have hiding places nearby :good:

Yes, they are shoaling/schooling fish and like to be kept in groups. It is also very wise to bare in mind the point about the angels, i had two adults and i had to put all my fish into one tank whilst we had a carpet fitted, 4 hours later there was only 2 left...

Depends on the size of your angel. Cardinals are a bit bigger so may pose less of a risk but not by much. maybe you could consider a larger variety of tetra?

Thank you.

Fish tank is H 37 x W 60 x D 32 cm. bit small but just my starter tank going to upgrade to a big tank in a few months.

Hopefully should be fine but only time will tell.

In all honesty, I think you should either upgrade your tank now, or think about re-homing that angel (beautiful angel, btw ) Fish are just like other animals; they do most of their growing in the first few months of life; in a few months time it'll be too late; the fish will already be stunted, I'm afraid.

If you look on ebay there are loads of plant 'collections' that you can buy quite cheaply; some of the plants won't do so well, but some will thrive and your fish will be much happier.

H 37 x W 60 x D 32 cm. ill be upgrading the tank in 2-3 months. i lost 2 neons a few days after adding them. Cycled im guessing you mean leave tank set up for 2 weeks before adding fish?
Yeah I could get some water samples.

Ill be picking up plants tomorrow ill try getting what you listed with a few rocks see what they are selling.

When u say a large variety. How many and what one i dont want to over fill with fish. ( not to sure how many is overcrowded thou)

Thank you angel had no stripes when we had it, they coming on good. Ill see what i can do with a tank at end of moth PAY DAY :) see what i can afford. Would a month or 2 really affect that much??

I don't mean anything huge, but something like the head and tail light tetra would be nice. A group of 6 should be fine. (Or a fish of this size)

I personally would also replace your substrate with something more natural to enhance your fishes colour and make them feel more safer. Get some rocks, bogwood (soak it for 48-72 hours before placing in your tank) plants, ornaments in your tank to also help them feel at home and make them want to swim around.

thats a nice fish will they get on with the neons. Yeah i want to make the tank look more natural for the fish. so trying to get a list sorted

Cycling means getting a colony of good bacteria growing in your filter to process the waste from your fish and stopping them building up to toxic level and killing the fish. It's called the nitrogen cycle and goes like this;

fish = ammonia > bacteria > nitrite > bacteria > nitrate > water change

The bacteria won't grow unless there is ammonia in the water, so just letting the tank run for a few weeks does not cycle the filter :(

I'd advise you get a test kit; one with liquids or tablets and not the paper strips if you can; it's a very worthwhile investment as then you'll always be able to tell what's going on with your water.

And, yes, a month or two can make a lot of difference...think about how it would affect a babies growth if you left it in a car seat, or a great dane in a broom cupboard for a 'couple of months'!

Natural colour substrate
Some nice bogwood
Variation of rocks
Live plants

:good:

Most tetra's are quite placid. I'd give blind cave tetras a miss though, i had some and they were evil little blighters!!

Don't get Silver tips either; I've heard very bad things about them too!
