Hi all i have a 96l tank and a aquastart320 which hasnt been used for a while could i run the filter in the big tank to cycle it and how long would this take?

Then to help could i fill the 320 with water from my 96l tank to help also ?

I would run the filter on for few weeks and see if that gets you there. Honestly...I find that putting a sponge from the used filter into the new one will speed things up a bit.

What you have to remember, OP, is that you don't really cycle tanks (or water), you cycle filters. If you put a mature filter on a tank, then it is cycled.

Are you moving fish from the 96l into the new tank?

I will be at a point but not in a great hurry

Ok. Make sure you take no more than a third of the media from your old filter (and you'll need to replace it with new for the bacteria to expand again) and don't forget that'll you'll need to feed the new tank with an ammonia source within a couple of days, at most, of adding the media to it, or the bacteria will die off and you'll be back to square one!
