I introduced some clown loaches into my tank to help control the snail population, and it worked! Im now virtually snail free, but my loaches miss the tasty little blighters.

I thought about breeding them in a seperate 'tank' - most like a bucket. Would I need filtration/heating? Or would it be enough to chuck some ramshorns in and a lettuce leaf every other day? How long would it be before I have enough snails to give them a daily treat?

would have thought a clear plastic box with declorinated water would be all thats nessary but adding an airstone might help and help icorage them. also i would position the box to get sunlight for a part of the day to encorage a bit of algea and maybe stick a living plant in the middle.

weekly 20% water changes.

If possible have a filter in the tank. I used an undergravel filter in a 3ft tank. I added some snails and fed them each day. They grow and breed more readily in warm water so a heater can help if you want large numbers on a regular basis.
Do regular water changes and gravel cleans to keep the water clean. Feed them once a day with a variety of food.
Add new snails on a regular basis (every 6 months) to help improve the genetic make-up of the ones you have. If you don't add new bloodlines then the snails become inbred and produce fewer eggs and young.
You can use a plastic bucket or tub if you like but the bigger the container, the more snails you will get.

i accidently bred ramshorn snails in a bucket outside in my garden..
i did a water change and picked the snail out of my tank put them in a bucket left it out side since i was going to use the water later to start another tank..
i forgot then looked a couple days later and it was full of blanket weed..i emptied out the water plus the blanket weed an discovered hundreds of snails..
so direct sunlight blanket weed and algae is good for breeding them.
