Hi,

I'm now setting up a Quarantine tank as my fish have white spot and I want to have it for future purchases. I have been treating my main tank just now and wondered if it was worth moving the infected guys just now and keep treating the main tank while treating the visible infected fish in the Quarantine tank.

I have a Fluval U3 Filter & A Fluval 2+ running in my 125 Litre tank. I have managed to convince my other half (which was a job in itself) that if I take my old Fluval 2+ filter out and put it back in the old tank I could run the tank and pretty much no extra cos and not much hassle.

Do you think its a good idea?

Also I was going to take out some of the sponge in the old filter and fill up my U3 filter with as much media and use the Fluval 2+ media (what will be left of it) and put some new sponge in it so it has some new and some old sponge and it can help reproduce the bacteria for the Quarantine tank.

I hope i've not confused anyone but your thought would be great!

I would just continue to treat them all in the main tank especially as you have started. Otherwise the infected fish might get even more stressed when you put them in the new tank. Unless some of the healthy fish don't like the whitespot treatment.

Good idea on the filter idea.

I would personally carry on treating them in your main tank, its not worth infecting your qt tank while you are treating them in the main tank anyway.
