Is it normal to be so cloudy at first? I've got it all set up and running but left the light off for now. Also how far up do I fill? I left about 2 or 3 inches at the top so I could pop all the stuff in. The filter splashes out water like a little fountain on top which was splashing drops of water everywhere until I got the lid back on. Is that normal?

What filter are you using? It shouldn't really splash up, more across.
Also it is normal for it to be cloudy at first and should clear after a while. You will find when Ornaments etc are in the level will rise but you should fill it up as much as is possible tbh

Here is a pick

can you see it's coming out the top of the filter and splashing back down into the water. I don't think I have enough water in the tank

It looks like it is going across which is ok. Fill it up in line with the bottom of the lid so you can't see a water line. The filter should then not be splashing too much and be creating a rippling effect which gives better airation.

I love the gravel and the flower ornament, I had that in my first tank :D

Do you know what size the tank is?

2 questions, firstly is the heater in the back corner touching the gravel? Secondly what is that under the filter? lol
It also might be better to have your heater angled to spread the heat a little better. The heater shouldn't be touching the substrate as it can cause too much heat and crack the glass!

cant you fill it up to the top of the glass line?? and have u submerged your filter fully? you need to make sure your outtake is under the water but not so far under it doesnt ripple the top of the water :good: ripples are good waves are bad lol

I gather the reason it is making splashing is because it won't go down any further without touching the gravel. Therefore adding more water shoud be good :good:

It's a 60 litre. I've still got some nice bits coming to go in it yet. My sis picked the flower lol.

I did what you said and filled it up and pushed the filter down a tiny bit more and it's better now. Does it matter if I put in slightly too much of the conditioner stuff. I put in warm water and put conditioner in the buckets as I did it. I worked out the amount and put 16 drops in but might have gone over. Also is it ok to top up with water without the conditioner. That extra bit I just added had none in as I'd already put enough in before

Bleeding Nora good job you told me about the heater. It's now across the back diagonally.

That blue thing is a pump??? I think It like has a clear tube and pushes out air. What should I be doing with that.

Do you think I need a touch more water?

you should never add non-conditioned water to a tank its not good practice  even if its just a few drops more u need to add just add them to be on the safe side as chlorine + heavy metals will destroy all the good bacteria youve worked so hard to build up.... how long ago did u put the extra conditioner in?? (i sometimes overdose my tank by a few drops and have seen no ill affects on my fish) id still add some conditioner to the tank to make sure theres no chlorine and metals in your fish tank.

i would go just above the top of the glass line :) and i think your on about your airstone? the blue thing that pushes out bubbles?
people say they are for decoration mainly but they will add small amounts of oxygen to your tank and i think they look good :p

ahhhh so that's what it is. I bought this:

what do they mean I need an air pump to work it? Is it no good for my tank?

my tank is at 30oC now that's too hot isn't it? should I turn the heater down?

it looks like its already working in your picture :) go to google images and type in fish tank air pump im sure u will see something that looks similar to yours.

i personally set my tank at 26-27 celsius ... it really depends on the fish you put in there, do u have any ideas on what fish you would like to stock?

What u got is ok but it wont have an air pump to make it work. U could put the air stone in the centre for niceness

water level is better :)

Agree with weezawoo, the airstone could be placed at the back in the middle this will also prevent any air bubbles getting into the filter.

But do I have an air pump to make it work? I assumed what the air stone was attached to was the pump??? I thought I could have the model thing instead of the stone. What's it supposed to even do? Is an air stone better then? I'm so confused

Moving the stone now. I put it there because the filter was holding it down. Otherwise it was floating

Also I got a freshwater API master test kit coming. Is that the right one? I bought it on ebay because it was £13 cheaper. Until it comes shall I just keep dosing the tank with amonia?
