im worried about my angelfish, everyone says bichirs go well with angels, but it seems that when i wake up to see my angelfish, sometimes its fins are torned off by the bichir, the bichir is small like 4", and the angel is like 3", will he get eaten?? im trying to feed the bichir a bunch of shrimp pellets/tubifex worms at night, it eats them all!, but even with a pregnant belly he still tries to eat the angelfish even with a full stomach, because i see the angel's fins nipped or sometimes worst every week or so

p.s. he seems to take bites at the angel at night only, because the angel is more active during the day, what i think the angel does, is once is too late to run away from the bichir's mouth, he just tries to escape and leaves some fins on the bichir's mouth
tank size is 55 gallons im 100% sure is the bichir he even tries to take my 3" severum down
and he ATE a 3.5" bala shark, well he actually killed it, only the head and body was left over, r.i.p. bala shark, thats why the bichir goes after ANYTHING at night

the fins usually grow back in less than a week in the angelfish thats the good thing, because i feed him lots of different food, and keep the water clean all the time

bumppppppppp, but anyways im gonna keep a better eye on my bichir, and dont forget to feed him at least every 3 nights :)

Perhaps the bichir falls into that class of species that can have an individual personality, I don't know!

Are you 100% sure that it is the Bichir?
yes, Bichirs are predatory and will consume fish they can catch, But they aren't a species that will or can nip fins or leave these kinds of injuries.

Looking at the stocking in your sig, the only fish capable of inflicting damage such as ripped fins would be your crayfish, which yes would very much be on the prowl after lights out, when the angel and your other fish are resting on the bottom.

The crayfish fish is to blame for the bala shark, possibly the angel. More than likely your severum is nipping at your angel. Get the crayfish out ASAP. I wouldn't worry to much about a nipped fin as you've seen the grow back quite quickly.
