I have tried several treatments for my betta fish, the newest is Coppersafe, and when it was put in the fish was swimming funny and erratically, and now seems to look like he has swimbladder. First the fungus, is this a side effect of the coppersafe?

He seems to be almost floating to the top and sitting there, but he is still eating.

He has lost all his colour.

Is this okay?

I'm not an expert at all on fish diseases, but he might be getting stressed out from all the meds your are giving him. You should figure out what is wrong with him first and then treat for that, if you can, to reduce stress and unneccessary chemicals.

Also, I've never used it, but people in the betta forum seem to be keen on Bettafix, which is a diluted solution of Melafix (which you could also use, but diluted of course). It's a more natural remedy from what I understand.

This is going to sound awful, but he's weak had enough and he not able to cope with anymore meds, the deseases have mounted up once they do, that's it, sorry but you will have to be prepared for the worse you have tryed your best for the fish, but you have to no when to call it aday, sorry, wish it had worked out better.

well what about a salt bath? maybe that would feel good to him? i agree he's probably had enough meds and adding anymore or anything different could possibly be the final straw.

I would change his water completely and get rid of all the medicine that you have in there. They are such a thing as too much. Then I would get some salt and put some of that in with him and leave him be for a few days and see if this dont help. Then after he is used to doing without all the medicine that you have had him in, I would try betta fix and see if you cant get him on the road to recovery. I am sorry that you are having so much trouble with your fish...

i know, he is not doing well at all, i have been giving him salt baths, i was told to put 2 teaspoons of the aqurium salt with 1 litre of water, and dip him in for a few seconds, so is it okay to keep him in for a few days?

if so, how much salt and water?

i have done numerous water changes and completely washed out his bowl, right now he is on the shelf in my closet so it is dark for him. and as we speak he has no meds in his water, i decided to give him a day rather than stress him out more.

but it really scared me when the coppersafe was put in, he went frantic, what was it doing to him?

Remove all meds from his water. No salt either. Just make sure he's got decent clean warm water to his liking and make sure he's not likely to be stressed by anything. Also a floating plant for him to sit in so he can stay close to the surface is a good idea. I wouldn't add anything else. Just let him be for a while.
Hugs,
P.

If he was mine i would add 1 level teaspoon per gallon and see how he looks with that. If no improvement after three days then raise it to another level teaspoon per gallon to give you .2%

What temperature is the water at?

Did you add an airstone to the bowl when you added the med.

I will put him in the salt thingy then, i am guessing i can leave him in there? i will do that, and the airstone i bought will fit his tank, so perhaps then i will buy another small one, or see if it will fit in his tank.

i found out, that the tap water where i live is very deadly for fish, the test on it came up bad, so i will be using bottled water.

Why is it deadly can you explain, bottled water is no good either as it has minerals in it, how is the fish doing bless him, any improvement with the salt dips.

Michelle post in the betta section they will most likely advise you what to do about your water.

we did a test on the water yesterday, i am somewhat in the country, and i think the water is hard. do you think it will help if i boil the water first and let it cool off?

i did post in the betta section but no one really answered me.

i think i have decided that today i will put him in the aquarium salt (i also found the aquari-sol you suggested) should i put that in as well? and i think i may put in some melafix, because that is supposed to be all natural, but i am wondering if boiling the water (not putting the fish in when it i hot) but boiling thwe water may kill some of the ammonia, (my tap water tested high for ammonia and PH last night) do you think that will work?

thank you again so much for all of your help.

I bought a bunch of things last night as a secon-run to the pet store to help with the ammonia levels and more hopeful stuff to rid him of the fungus.
