Hi' there, i sold alot of my fish so i could get something different and went with an EB Jack Dempsey well after a day it died, not sure why just noticed it laying on the bottom on it's side. The Water stat's are fine as i test usually weekly just to check somethings not wrong. Well when i got my last lot of fish 4 juvi Geophagus Surimensis and bristlenose plec 2 of the Geo's had died within a couple of days the others are still going strong a few months on. I don't get it though as theres no issues with the tank water that i can see , the tanks regully maintained and the fish that i have are happy ( had breeding angels before i sold them and doubt theyd breed if they were happy).

I've been using the API master test kit so i know the results are acurate. The only thing thats a bit out is the PH is over 8 (cant remember exactly what)

The Fish all get aclimitised when i get them by putting the bag into the water for 20minutes, then open the bag and slow mix tank water with the water in the bag over a spcae of about 20 minutes before relasing the fish.

Not sure if its just bad luck or whatnot. One of my friends had the same every fish he got died within a week but that kinda resolved itself.

Any ideas? Cheers Ben

ph is fine my ph is between 8.0-8.5 and ive kept everything.......
what temp is tank set at? is filter functioning corectly

temperatures set to 26oC on the heater, varies a little though on the thermometer can go up a degree when the central heatings on, but ive only seen it go up to 28oC max. I've got two filters on the tanks so its nicely overfilters, i checked them both today and theyre fine , one was a little dirty but thats good as i know its filtering :)

reason i was asking about heater as it may have cracked somewhere on the glass.....
Filter may have dropped off somewhere so was thinking mechanical.......

ok temp's fine, tank's fully cycled?
ammonia/nitrate/nitrite reading's are all good?
what's you feeding regime?
what tank mates<full list

The ammonia and Nitrite is at 0, need to test for nitrate last time it was low around 20 but since have put some new plants in so will check it again when im home from work.

i feed them when i get up in the morning , the EBJD seemed to be eating when i put him in.
in the tank is 2 kissing gourami and 2 geophagus surimensis all around the same size as the JD was 3inch ish .

just wurried about spending decent moneyon a fish i really like if its only going to die on me:(

Was there anything unusual about the bodies?

Anything like bloating, discoloration etc... anything at all?

What type of food are you feeding them?

-FHM

How far afield are you getting stock from? if the ph is a big difference between your tanks and the LFS then it may be worth acclimatising them over a longer period, they could be dieing of Ph shock?

I had a good look at the fish once i took it out and couldnt see any marks. I'm feeding them some food from tetramin, its little red coloured subes.

The fish has come from Tri-Mar (cornwall??) to cumbria so a fair bit of distance, the fish was acclimitised for nearly an hour.

also, do you use thing's like airfresher's/deodarant within close proximity to the tank, painted resently spilt any chemical's or someone cleaning tank with cleaning product's, or have a plug in room freshner near tank, say this as i once caught my wife about to spray tank top with some cleaning product to clean dust off, caught her in time,,,,

Not as far as im aware as i'm living between 2 houses atm its in the dining room so very unlikely but then again if it had i would expect my other fish to be feeling a bit worse for ware.
