Now i have some questions:
It hasnt been running for a few month, do i have to buy new sponge for filter or can i just give the ones i got a good clean?
What is the best way to cycle my tank? I currently have a 25l tank running with live plants and sponge in filter, how much can i use from this tank without disturbing it?
Or
If i transferred everything would the tank be instantly cycled? When could i add more fish to this?

I have one of them for my fry, there only £55 brand new so good little started tanks. you can use the sponge that in already just give it a good clean. For cycleing the tank head over the beginers section where there pages and pages on the subject :good:

If the sponge softens up when wet, go ahead and use it. What I would do is get ready for a fishless cycle and get everything running then clean my old filter in the new tank. Enough bacteria will be transferred to that new filter to support a cycle in less than a week. After that you just need to clean up the mess you made by using the new tank as a cleaning bucket.

I really wish the currency conversion was meaningful. A 10 gallon nominal tank in the US at 60 cm long goes for about $25 to $30. If I simply convert the currency that is less than £20. I would be screaming if someone tried to charge me £55 for one.

Imagine if you came to New Zealand and bought one where you'd get charged over $100.00 OldMan47! What's after screaming? :hyper:

At petco, during a $ per gallon sale a 10,20,29, or 55 gallon tank (longs talls and regulars) are only $1 per gallon so $10 for a 10 gallon just the tank, and on sale I've seen a 15 gallon full setup for $40 brand new or full price a 10 gallon setup $70 brand-new.

Those things do not include a cover or a hood MOF. Let's compare apples to apples. This was about a properly equipped tank. Have you seen one much cheaper than I cited with a light strip and cover? Have a look at that picture.

Nope but as Ive stated I have seen a full 15 gallon setup for $40 :good:

dont forgot guys the difference in USA and UK price wise is night and day for most things, Petrol, fish tanks, food to name a few in the UK we just moan about the tax do nothing and let the gov do as they wish but thats a diff thread. All in all £30 for the tank, hood, light, heater and filter is not bad at all over here :good:

Thankyou for info.

I paid £30 for the tank, hood, light, filter, heater, magnetic glass cleaner (also plants, gravel and rocks but wont be using them). When i was shopping around for a new one, the best price i could find was £68 for complete 2ft tank brand new so i compared it to this.

I bought my Marineland 10 gallon setup for $45 awhile back. I came with a hood, LED light with moonlights, a Penguin bio-wheel filter and 50 heater. It even had a cheesy net & stick on thermometer! It was on sale............

Right, back to the tank....
Sponges like new after a good wash, so using them.
I got some play sand from local supermarket, washed it for 30 minutes and put this in.
Added water, water conditioner and ammonia.
Letting it run for a while before washing my other filter in it, just to make sure nothing stops working on me with it being secondhand.
No cloudiness at all :D so really pleased (first time with sand).
Im thinking few pieces of driftwood like the one in the tank (which helped me put water in)
A few live plants like java fern and anubias. Maybe a coconut cave??
Any idea?
