I got my whole setup second hand from my ex-boyfriends dad, a 30 gal tank (Well not my whole setup, I bought a new filter) But that's beside the point.
I've had it for several months and yeah. I finally figured out how to turn the heat up!! (It's a big dial on top that says Higher/Lower!!! :fun: ) (I tend not to mess with my tank electronics such as the heater, as I'm terrified of being zapped)
But I have a problem. I don't know how to tell how much higher I'm setting the temperature. I don't want to fry my fish (All warm water fish), but I think they'd be happier in 76/78F water instead of the 72-74F that it usually hovers around.

The filter is generic looking, google it (But imaging it to be about 10 years old and probably a bit more retro looking than any that come up lol) Or just look at the big glass tube in the middle of my tank in my sig, that's the heater(Of course I notice this after I make the post)

Anyone know how I tell how hot I'm making the water other than by watching the thermometer for hours?

turn it up just a hair until the light turns on. let it sit for a few minutes until the light turns off. Then check the temp. continue until you reach your desired temp. Sorry there's no real faster was. Shouldn't take hours though.

good enough, so long as theres no magical 'just wait for the click and that's 3 degrees' or something like that :P
