Second hand tank

Hi Forum

I have a chance to buy the following tank.

the price is £40 but can be knocked down to £30 (cheap tanks are hard to come buy over here)

I have not yet seen the tank but the seller has told me its a Jewel with a light wood stand and the tank surround is silver. She says it holds 100 litres and the dimensions are 55 x 50 x 40 cms. there are 2 light strips in the hood and the filter sits in the corner of the tank.

i am having trouble finding this tank on the jewel website as its seems they dont do a 100 litre one or one with those dimensions

can any one help identify it. cheers

Ask the seller for the dimensions again, I wouls say it a Rekord 70 or one very similiar to it.

if the tank surround is silver then it's not a juwel. Juwels only come in beech or black for the rio, vision and trigon range and just black for the rekords. any fo them can have either colour stand, so unless she's painted the tank it's something else. wouldn't be suprised if it's a Fish R Fun tank.

Paul I was thinking maybe it’s a fish r fun at first, as I know they have silver surrounds.

Am I right in thinking that all jewel tanks will have a jewel logo on them somewhere? So when I go tonight I can identify it as a jewel or not.

The jewel logo is on the bottom right of the tank on anything above a rekord, but on rekords you will need to look at the components for a imprinted logo.

Unless it's a really old Jewel then I'm not sure...apart from Rena i can't think of any others that do tanks in silver.

I think will filter and other equipment will tell you the full story though.

hi just got back from viewing the tank

its a jewel lido 100. Never heard of it before but it looks very new and the light wood stand with cupboard is immaculate. it came with what looks like an UGF, cleaning equiptment, air pump 2 gorgeous pieces of huge bog wood.

I bought it as i seen the stands on various site for £69.99 so a almost new tank, might as wellbe new stand and bog wood and airpump for £30 is a good deal

the exact dimensions are L 21 inches x H 17 inches x W 15.5 inches so i make that very close to 20 uk gallons

not sure what to stock it with though

i think i am going to try my hand at planting this one with the wood in.

what should i stock it with do u think. i have 7 neons and a guppy that i would like to move to this tank

Yep. A small plec such as a Bristlenose or rubbernose

that looks great, much better than the Fish r Fun silver tanks, they look so tacky.

pitty it only had an undergravel.

I agree get it nicely planted up.
