Seachem Paraguard

I've decided to treat with Seachem Paraguard since my Tetra and Dwarf Gourami have been flecking themselves and randomly darting. I know it's a long shot as it could be any number of things causing these symptoms.

The instructions state the dose (5ml for every 40 litres) but then states 'repeat daily or as required' (or something similar to those words, don't have the bottle to hand ).

So, why does this med need adding daily!? surely this would result in overdosing the tank? Am I to do W/C daily before adding another dose?

I'm not familar with this particular medication, but it is quite common to have to repeat dosages over a number of days, due to things like...

• Natural breakdown of the active chemical, due to Ultra Violet light for example
• The daily dosage is purposefully quite small due to it toxic nature, so we are gradually building up the active chemical to effective levels over a number of days, making things a little easier on our fish
• The active chemical may only "treat" the illness in a specific part of the life cycle of the pathogen, such as the Ich spores that hatch on the tank floor and then try to swim up to find a new host fish
