Hi Guys, I received this email on Saturday from a seller I have used to buy Seachem products from. I have not checked to see if what they are saying is true and I've removed the link to their shop so that this isn't advertising. I meant to post this Saturday but I forgot!! Does anyone know anything about this?

Please take a little time to read this email, it's quite important...

Right now a legal squabble is going on, and this will most likely be the last weekend that you can buy Seachem products at great prices on eBay, and possibly anywhere. Unfortunately for all of us the UK importer has threatened all eBay and Amazon businesses to remove all Seachem and CaribSea brands before this coming Tuesday lunchtime, or face legal action in court paid for by Seachem themselves.

So, if you are interested in buying Seachem or CaribSea products at our usual prices, here's the link to our eBay store...

Unfortunately it's very likely that before Tuesday lunch time our eBay store will have it's Seachem and CaribSea items removed. It's also unlikely that Seachem or CaribSea will appear on eBay again.

i posted this after a email i got too

From what I can see, the problem is that UK sellers are selling it cheap? So I'm guessing the prices may rise. I don't see what Seachem will gain from removing themselves from the UK market.

I'm not gonna panic buy. If this comes to pass, I'll just have to find another brand if Prime becomes completely unavailable.

I've bought another lot just in case as I'm three quarters through my current bottle... I have only found one shop that sells is and it was very expensive and a fair drive away.

Well I hope this problem can be sorted, but just incase I have ordered 500ml of Prime because I dont want to be spending over £25 for some at my LFS when at the moment I can get it for half the price on line.

Hopefully this will all be sorted within 9-12 months......when I'll be looking to refresh my current 500ml bottle :)

thanks for posting this though - very useful info

lol a 500ml bottle does last a long time!! but usually I end up giving a bit away to any friends that are starting up the hobby.

I have to admit I've bought a 500ml bottle as well - lol I'm going to feel really silly if I've just done it for no reason hehe, but at at least £10 saving from LFS (which I can't even get locally) I figured it was worth it.

I wondered what ha happened!

I went to buy some prime the other day and the prices were completely different and about half the products gad dissapeared. Thought it was a stock shortage of some sort

How annoying.. Considering the amount of users who use prime

It probably is a stock shortage due to folks like myself buying it all up! :p

Somthing is fishy.

Its ike saying, there is going to be a petrol shortage so you better stock up while we have some. What do we do? Go mad for petrol.

Loads on eBay still, will wait untill tomorow to see the outcome.

I know - I totally agree with you and am a little ashamed of my behaviour haha. I bet it all turns out to be nothing, just like the petrol thing but the Seachem resellers will have done well out of it!

Yup. As I said earlier, I don't see what Seachem will gain from removing themselves from the UK market.

To me its hardly surprising and a lot of businesses are going down the same route! Hagen (Fluval/Laguna) certainly are!

The internet is pricing out the shops. Internet doesnt have to pay so much rent for floor space, they can store stock anywhere and so can buy in massive bulk and get huge discounts doing so and sell far cheaper than any retail possibly could. (this is how certain larger chain stores can undercut all the little independant shops.

But sooner or later the shops are going to turn around the the seller and say "well wait a minute.. why are we bothering to sell your products when you sell it to our competitors so much cheaper?". If enough retails question why they are bothering to deal with a company so happy to play their customers off each other... then the company like Seachem is going to have to make a choice... do they want their products exclusively sold online or do they want it on the shelves in stores for the customers?

Retailers would be paying more than an online retailer that would be buying in bulk for a higher discount... so if the company think they are better off selling less at a higher price and still make more money... they will do!

Its happening with a lot of ranges... same as you are seeing the same companies doing exclusive ranges for different shops, like Interpet have all the Fishpod tanks exclusive to pets at home... but had all the aquatropic tanks for maidenhead aquatics. Neither could buy each others items from Interpet.

Pets at Home have some deal with Hagen for rebranding their exoterra vivariums, with king british for repacking their foods and i think interpet treatments repackaged as their own (thats a guess but its either interpet or a similar brand).

For the companies with the products, its all about making a profit and if you start losing all your best customers because they aresick of being undercut... the only thing you can do is stop your products being sold cheaply online.

To be honest... i love a bargain as much as the next person!! I completely agree with retailers demanding that suppliers are more reasonable with their discounts between online sellers and retailers or just demanding that the products arent sold online.

After all... everyone likes to visit their LFS... but if the internet is allowed to get too far ahead... there soon wont be any LFS left when they cant afford to stay open.

Well said Gemma :good: I'll have to search hard for somewhere that sells it as I can't get it in any local stores at all...
