"Why Utah?!"
I was feeding him live black worms and he wheels around on himself and tore off his dorsal fin! There is NOTHING left of it! Absolutely nothing left! *Runs around in little circles shrieking*

Eeee! Get that baby in some warm, salted water with something to promote tissue regeneration - fast! Is he bleeding badly? Is he able to stay upright?

i rescued a betta from my friend who had no dorsal and only a tiny little tail, he had fin rot that bad.

Your fish will probably survive, the dorsal fin may just be oddly shaped when it grows back

Dart, you're a good friend for taking that fish on.

Of course, if I ever had a friend who allowed a fish to get finrot so bad ANY of their body parts was almost gone, there'd be an ass-kicking (probably a verbal ass-kicking, depending on the friend) in store. I don't care how close of a friend they are - they'd KNOW I was severely pissed when I was done.

Put him in clean water with some Stress Coat (has Aloe gel in it), Melafix, and some salt. He wasn't bleeding at all, but he didn't look great either.

I almost didn't take him but he had such a will to live. My friend left him in her res room over christmas break - ~3 wks, when she came back he was swimming on his side to stay in the water and then she just filled the bowl up with tap water right there. After i found this out i stole him :p

He lived for about 2 years after

you can see where his fin started growing again

Wow, bless you for saving him.
I'm sure he loved you dearly for taking him in and taking good care of him.

He is a beautiful fish. He looks like my Amos
