lets see how mnay of us there are from scotland, so come on sign on, lets see you all, maybe even have a get together sometime, or possibly swap fish, or maybe we have a scottish member who breeds there own fish who would like some business from folks in there own area, i personally would buy from a private breeder as the LFS up here never have anyhting have decent, it's always your run of the mill fish, like tetras, swords, platy's, small ols cories, nothing different or oddball, then if they occasionally get a nice syno ca etc, they want funny money for it!!

Well i'm in Glasgow so i've got loads of choice. But I mainly go to Aquarium Design or Coral Reef Aquarium, both practically next to each other.

I prefer Aquarium Design, the people are really nice and the tanks look brilliant and there's a big selection of stock. Coral Reef Aquarium is good because there's a lot of stock, but the staff are really arrogant. It's a little more pricey too.

Both of them are on Paisley Road West just beside springfield quay, where you can park for free.

On a side note, I have a smaller coldwater tank at my parents' house in Linlithgow (about 45 minutes from here by car) and there's a great little pet shop, there's not a very wide range of stock but the lady that runs it is dead nice. We forgot money after choosing a couple of fish once, but she let us take them and drop in the money later.

Hi folks

I'm a Scots lass - from the central belt near Stirling. We've only got one lfs here but its a good one :D

hi emo,
yeah i know the ones your onabout i know the guy who works in coral reef, the 2 shops arent too bad but it is always your usual run of the mill fish , never anything special, though amquarium design has sometimes, got nice fish through the back in the designed tanks, gonna lok in there next time i am up that way, you never used the other 2 shop on paisley rd west? waterworld, and M&R dogfish?, they aint as good though not still good to have a look in

fiori,
hi there what is the name of that shop in stirling?, does it have a website and is it easy to find?, as i think it won an award in the PFK magazine, do they have a good selection of unusual and oddball fish?

Hi Scott :)

Riverside Aquaria was voted in the top 40 shops in UK in Practical Fishkeeping, but it doesnt have a web site - I'd never bothered to look until now, as I just "pop" in - a lot!! :D I'm a newbie to fishkeeping, so I'm not up on all the various oddball fish, but he does seem to have different stuff in every week, apart from the usual. No marine stuff tho. I've found myself doing a lot of reading every time I come across a fish I don't know. :p And their tanks are lovely and clean, with healthy fish.

They are also really nice and helpful staff there - I've been at this for only just over 2 months and I'm already on first name terms with them. Any question and they will happily answer it for me, make suggestions and put me off any wacky ideas. They can also order stuff in, if you have specific requirements. As a small shop, I suppose they are a little more expensive sometimes, but their service is second to none.

Oh I forgot the address :*)

27 Linden Avenue - its fairly near the town centre
