Scared To Go Downstairs...

Last night I was given 100 small cherry shrimp by a friend and I put them in my betta tank, however, both my male bettas were chasing them round and round and now I fear going downstairs as I don't want my 2 crazy fish to have eaten them all

Bettas do tend to eat them, just hope they have a lot of hiding space? If they don't then I think you will be missing a few .

There is loads of space that the bettas can't get to but the shrimps seemed stupid enough last night to sit on the front

I did have 5, they were all together from birth
I sold 3 but will probs keep the 2 I have left unless they start nipping at eachother.
I went down to find all the shrimps looking rather bright and active and the bettas had given up chasing and got back to their normal life's

I would first buy a tank divider.... you cant keep 2 bettas together under any circumstances, they're called fighting fish for a reason,

Do they actually fight? I cant believe that someone would keep two male bettas in the same tank if they were fighting. Still, it surely will eventually happen

They are 2 years old and they have never fought, the both have long flowing fins and sit side by side in the plants...
Obviously if I seen them have a go at eachother or noticed nipped fins then they would be moved but I'm not the only one on this forum that has more than 1 male in one tank

Are they actually Betta splendens? Keeping 2 males is fine providing the tank is big enough.

They are the common ones that you alwaysfind in the tiny bits of water at a fish shop... One is red, the other is blue
The tank is 3ft and only houses them and 100ish cherry shrimp, loads of plants & a few smooth rocks

Yeah I agree, if something works I cant see a problem, sometimes I think people are too quick to jump on people, although they may be just looking out for the owners and fishes best interest

Sorry, i just assumed as you mentioned keeping bettas they were in the usual 10g tank.
