Hiya

Im just wondering what the chances are of one of my Zebra danios surviving, he got stuck in between the ribbed openings on a plastic plant pot that i had left in the tank for a day or two (not normal practice btw it was half a pot of glosso that i was going to plant in another tank, i just put it in my main tank as i rearranged the other) the damage is quite bad id say he has lost all the scales for about a 1/4 inch all the way around his body in the area he got stuck, this area is now white and scaleless, he is able to swim and keep afloat but not acting normally for a danio (obviously shocked and injured) i have no idea how long he was stuck, it happened today sometime that i know for sure, he does not appear to have any obvious cuts.

So what would you reckon the fishes chances are, and obviously is there anything i can do to help him increase his chance of survival.

Thanks

You'd need to treat him, i think (not 100% sure) there is something called mellafix (or something like that) that helps with scales, or it might be general illnesses, but i cant be sure so i'll leave someone confirm it.

He now open to infection can you issolate him, melafix, but if he's lost alot of scales it might be better to use anti internal bacteria med.

Thanks for the replys guys (and gals) i cant totally isolate him but i can move him to a smaller tank which contains other fish (only a few) , i dont have either melafix or anti internal bacterial med but can get some first thing tomorrow the lfs is only a short drive away, is there any point in adding lots of extra stress coat to the tank if i move him for now as a remedial measure, ive had this fish a long time so i would like to save him if i can.

And just lastly which is better to use in a tank which will contain other fish the melafix or the anti internal bacterial med or does it matter.

Thanks again

Try and get both and try the melafix first, i don't no the procudure but some fishkeepers rub some vasaline on the affected area, but i don't no if i would try that, only in a issolation tank of his own.

Ok Wilder thanks very much for your help i will get both first thing..........appreciate it
