He is about 4" at the moment, how long will it take for him to grow?

Hello nice pleco. I advice u to get a bigger tank before they will get stunned.

Well, I wouldn't let it get any larger than 5-6 inches before you move it to a larger tank (and they grow fast). As far as final tank size, IMO nothing smaller than 100 gallons, you'll want at a tank minimum of 6ft long and 2ft deep so he can turn around.

Here's a pinned post on figuring out how large of a tank you need to big fish.

I just bought my Juwel Lido 120 ltr that cost me £220.. got no cash left now.. what if i was to buy a cheap tank for himself?

Well just spoke to my dad, and he said that it will only grow to the size of the tank, is this true? Also.. he said that hes Koi can get to 6ft long but they only get to that size in a lake. Is it the same kinda thing for aquarium fish or is it different?

That is a common myth in fish keeping. Your fish will continue to grow despite the size constraints, this will result in deformity, disease, and early death. Even if he does survive, he will most likely have a bent spine, and will be stunted. Koi, can get quite large (not sure if six feet though), and in many cases live over 100 years, if they die in a couple of years or even 10, then they have been inadequately cared for.

Please don't take this as criticism, but unless you can properly house your gibby (and even by himself he will need a very large tank), it would be best for him to be returned/rehomed. There are many plecos that stay small and would be suitable for your tank.
