Saw These In The Goldfish Bowl.

Yea they look really small when they've got 3'' of gravel, and 3 plants in them.. if you take out most of the gravel, and maybe put 1 small plant infront of the waterfall of the filter to kind of disperse the flow, it should be ok.

I don't believe those filters are very strong, but bettas with really long fins might have trouble swimming if the waterfall does have some strong flow to it.

I once found a 2g option online, but I can't anymore. I think it's either discontinued, or some strange 'off brand' makes it.

The shape of the container is so wonky, though, that I don't find them to be very useful for betta keeping, personally. No real lids available, easily scratched acrylic, and it needs to be full to the brim in order to be the volume it advertises.

The one I ordered for the filter? I put lucky bamboo in it. It's on my top shelf. I bought a second one for the filter, as well, and I use it to hold water for my cats. :D

Not to say that it's a bad home for a betta, it's just that I think that other options of a simmilar water volume are more useful for my situation.

I have a few 1 gallon setups that I bought here in Illinois at PETCO for around 4.00 with a small light and filter. What I did was got some plastic sheets that they use for crotia/nitting in the hobbie section of WALMART--only around 40 cents a sheet here in the STATES. I cut it to fit then made a boarder to go down the sides about an inch or two, put together with small cable straps bought at walmart. Works like a champ, sorry have no pictures, hope you understand my words, not quite surtain on what the sheets are called. But for only a dollar or less made a great top plus due to all the holes in the material it gave plenty of oxygen to the tank.

What?!? 4.00?!? Do they still sell them there?

EDIT: I guess even if it was $4 there it wouldn't be that little here. The cost of living is so high here. Everything is more expensive. That is just awesome, though, if you really got it for $4. Hard to believe.

 I was eyeing that tiny tank some months ago. Too bad they dont make it any bigger (like 3-5 gallons). I ended up with this one instead. :good:

Ooo, very nice. I would have bought some bigger for that price, but I'm sure it will be beautful. You frequent the planted forum also, right? A nice nano.

PETCO had a clearance on their 1 gallons, I think they were originally around 20.00, they had 3 of them and I bought 3 and one of the workers grabbed the other one. They make great tanks for bettas.

Wow, congrats, a little late. That was very lucky.

Actually compared to a standard bowl, those would be ideal. They are a bit small, but if u remove some of the gravle, and dont choke it with plants, it'd be near perfect. I think a nice little filter system more than makes up for the lack of room, better it be clean than big. May also want to add a lid. :D

I use the filters that these things come with, and while gentle in a 5g tank, I'm not so sure it'll be the same in a 1g bowl.

The filters they come with are quite gentle, but given the amount of space in there... hnn, I don't know.

Please note that these filters are pretty poor at mechanical filtration. In fact, they tend to choke up really easy. I would only depend on them for biological filtration and heat distrubution. (edit) I filled mine with LECA biomedia, which in my opinion is superior to the biomedia included with the filters, stock. Still others have used sponges meant for Aquaclear minis, which they say works great. Another opion would be unused, untreated 'shower scrunchies', how-to here. I heard of another guy on another forum who used plastic toy soldiers... you works with what you gots. :D (end edit)

I put my filter on my then-10g tank for 2 weeks before I put it on my 5g. One of the setups I got had a noisy as blank filter, but the other was fine.

I think that in a 1g environment, unless you plan on tackling a cycle, it's better to rely on water changes to keep the water clean, and not filters. That's just my opinion.

That tank is 1 US gallon. Which is totally fine, but the filter is totally over-kill, pointless, and will annoy the poor little Betta. :/ It also needs a lid. Filtering/cycling is really unneccessary in such a small tank.

IMHO, you would be much better off spending that $30 USD (50-60 pounds?) on a nice 5 gallon Minibow with a tank hood and everything. Or, a glass 10 gallon with a hood!

Just to clarify incase someone reads this as a resource in the future.
That tank is completely unsuitable for a betta. Bettas need 3 UK gallons minimum with 5-10 being the accepted ideal. The filter is more important in a smaller tank then a larger one as there is less water to dilute the toxins thus they build up a lot more rapidly. Lids are an arguable issue, imo bettas don't jump randomly they do it because something is wrong with their environment or going for food.
