I'm getting a few trailor loads of sand this weekend as I'm wanting to build a new stone wall out in the back garden.
The man I get it from dredges it from a lake. Lough Neagh to be exact.
I was wondering, provided I wash whatever I have left over well would this be ok to use in a tank?

i would say yes, maybe boil it first to make sure u kill anything that could be in it? cant be any worse than any other sand can it?

i would use it.

If it is inert sand then yes it should be fine to use, after all Lough Neagh is used to store drinking water.

its the make up of the sand. I'd be careful here, it may well affect your water stats. sand most used for aquaria, here anyway, is PLAYSAND. that is pure silica, and inert. building/rough sand is not.

its an interesting experiment. just not sure i would try it.
