Sand is best imo,cleaning easier and done weekly to keep on top of things.

If you end up sucking it out,then just put it back in....

I have the Fluval U2 and the bad news is no, it doesn't tend to suck it all up. I think you'll prob only get that with externals. I always find that after a day or so I can see poop everywhere again. But it seems worse than it is because you can see it. Sometimes I get annoyed and do another vac in the week but I don't think it does the plants any good so my new plan is to carpet my tank, the carpet plants can use majority of poop as nutrients and I won't be able to see it! Win win!

and yeah you will suck some sand up but not loads and you can always wash it off and put it back in again when you've finished.

Harlequins your sand looks pristine in all your pics. Mine never looks THAT clean!

i have fluval u2 will that be ok and i have the surface flow on.not the agitation or aieration thing as if only allows you to use one of the features at a time. sucks eh?

A Fluval U2 imo isn't even suitable for the stocking level you have i'm afraid....

Believe it all not,most of the time it looks like that,2 externals and a few wiggly friends helps keep it like that ,it does notice sometimes in the corners i get a build up of debris,but once the cory have whizzed past it,it gets sucked into the filter.
And i notice on weekly w/c, once i lift the decor up

When you get the sand, make sure you pick out every grain individually and give it a good clean, make sure you clean it well, a good roll between you fingers for at least 5 minutes. gluck!
