Sand Refill

I may move my tank soon for inportant reasons and was thinking when i drain it out to be redecorated etc could i refill it with sand. does every fish appreciate sand. i know catfish love it and i will be keeping catfish ( hence the name) lol. any information on maintaining the sand would be great thanks!

sand looks better and personally id say its easier to clean just hover above the sand with a gravel vac and do little circles

wouldnt the gravel cleaner suck up the sand though?

When you get the sand, make sure you pick out every grain individually and give it a good clean, make sure you clean it well, a good roll between you fingers for at least 5 minutes. gluck!

How often? i was told every month would be fine depending on stocking. so with mine its probably every week lol get it?

If you have a strong enough flow your filter will suck up your fish poo

i have fluval u2 will that be ok and i have the surface flow on.not the agitation or aieration thing as if only allows you to use one of the features at a time. sucks eh?

can we have a vote for sand or gravel? pleAse?

it's your own personal choice - buy whatver you want. Some fish do prefer sand whilst others prefer a dark substrate which will also help bring out their colours.

I just changed to sand. It's much easier to keep clean. The mess gathers on the surface so you only need to hover the airline tubing/gravel vac above it, swirl slightly and it will suck it up. If you get too close you inevitably suck up a bit of sand as well but practice makes perfect.

+1! really up to you but if you are planning on keeping catfish, i would personally choose sand. if you hold your gravel filter far enough from the sand it won't suck it all up!! good luck m8!
