Sand Problem :/

I got the sand I ordered today - and there isn't enough to cover the bottom of the tank. Is there anything I can put down that would take up the space and support plants?
I'm planning on leaving a layer of gravel but I was just wondering if there's something else I can put down so there's more for my plants to take root in.. Something that I wouldn't have to wait a week for to arrive

What sort of sand? If it's normal sand then could you mix it with play sand?

It's Floromax, so it has added iron and Magnesium and whatever the heck else to support plant life, I'm assuming that's not normal And there's actually no place around that sells play sand - it's getting to be winter and it's all been packed away in their warehouses I was thinking of just grabbing my BF and making him take me down to the Petsmart and picking up some nomal sand - but I don't know if mixing gravel, a normal sand and this floromax stuff would be okay, especially if the Floro max is on top to keep it black - thats the whole reason I had to order it, because Petsmart doesn't carry any black sand

Well i know i wont be much help, but i got black sand at petco and it looks fantastic! AND supports plant life very well for me

They don't carry it at my Petsmart. They only have a very small selection, and it's white... Im thinking I'll just mis the two together maybe... make grey sand

No Got two petsmarts in my area and 2 walmarts - walmarts are useless for sand and the petsmarts are more geared toward dog food and small animals rather than fish

I'd be tempted to wait and order some (even delivery to your local petsmart) as when I tried to mix colours it went horribly wrong, black sand and play sand mixed up is not a good look.

Went and talked to a petsmart person, he said that sand is to fine for plants.
and th4e stuf I got int he mail turns out to be a very fine gravel. So I bought some mid size gravel to mic with the sand - I also have so black gravel to darken it up..

\I have a 5 gallon I'm going to set up with the three different sizes, black gravel, natural mid size gravel and the sand and see fi plants will grow.... I'll tell y'all how it goes it'll probably look really stupid haha
