Sand Or Gravel?

What would be better for guppies and mollies, gravel or sand???
The tank currently has light coloured gravel with a mix of coloured rocks. I`m thinking of changing this to sand but not sure if both these fish type will like it.
Any comments? If sand is ok to use, what would be a good sand to get? If sand is no good I`ll just change the gravel to a dark coloured one.

Doesnt really matter does it? Neither of those fish spend a huge amount of time on the bottom do they. ^^

I`ve read somewhere online that guppies sometimes like to play with the sand, plus the fact when the lights are out they all seem to be on the rocks. Thought sand might be more comfortable.

I don't think either will make a huge amount of difference, I think it's more down to which you prefer the look of. Personally I find sand less hassle and is much cheaper, which is why I used it in all of my tanks - but gravel isn't much more work.

That being said, if you plan on adding bottom feeders such as cory's at some point (depends on your tank size etc) I'd definitely go for sand.
