How do you clean aquarium sand in a tank when it starts getting dirty?
I love the look of sand in cichlid aquariums and I'm wondering whether to start using it in one of my aquariums for dwarf cichlid species.

Thanks for any help,

You can just use a regular syphon/hose. Hold it about an inch or so above the substrate and make small circular swirling movements with the end keeping it the same distance roughly from the sand. This will stir up any detritus and syphon it straight out. The sand is quite heavy and should dislodge and stay sunk. If your sucking up loads of sand your holding the syphon too close.

Hope this helps,
James
