I added a salvini to my tank yesterday and so far all is going well...for now. My setup now is 240litre fluval roma, 1 2000lph APS external, 1 male salvini, 2 female blue acaras and 11 columbian tetras. The acaras seemed to be very interested in mr salvini when he arrived following him around etc but no nipping or lip locking yet, maybe theyll get on?

I have some beautiful manzanita coming from the US very soon, 3 pieces so Maybe that'll help create territories as i only have rock and fake plants at the mo

What are your future plans with the salvini?

not too sure, I wanted a bit of oomph in my tank, im going to either restock with the salvini and maybe a green terror/JD etc or go for a solely discus tank decisions decisions

Problem is i assume they are Juvis, its only a success when they reach around 5" and they are still ok, even then they can snap at any moment.

to be honest after some thought im going to do what I planned originally, if poss 5 discus, 2 elliotis maybe an acara :)

If going for discuss and acaras the why go central american with the elliotis. if the elliotis spawn it could be massive problem for your discuss, especially considering your tank is quite small. the other problem is depending on which discus you keep the min-mid temp requirement is the max for the acara and ellioti so even though they can be kept in the same tank temp wise, it isnt ideal.

Would it not be a better idea to keep the discuss with smaller carmer fish or perhaps keep the acaras and go for angels or something instead.

Theres so many beautiful fish out there that therre is no need to keep any fish in anything other than optimum conditions

i was getting carried away, Im thinking a nice mix would be my 2 acaras with 2 ellioti and my salvini "if" he behaves!

i think keeping the salvini in a 240 with the four other serious cichlids is getting more carried away. in a 240 i would be deciding on either the acaras or ellioti and plaanning smaller fish that will work with them. cramming loads of beautiful cichlids in a tank doesnt bring out the best in them

Salvini for there size are pound for pound agressive, i had a full grown female, first couple weeks fine, then would take on jaguar cichlid, vieja, oscars and green terror and usually win everytime, got too bad in end had to rehome...good luck
