Salty Cichlids?!

I was just researching blackbelts and found a site that states they are found in marine conditions in the wild. Is this true? Could I convert one to slatwater and keep it in a marine tank? My mind is boggling!

Lots of american cichlids have been found crossing brackish or even full marine waters and have been able to migrate from north to south or visa-versa but this is not their natural habitat and merely shows how hardy and adaptable they are. Though I have no idea if they'd survive long-term, I know I wouldn't try it.

Well that might explain how some dude in singapore has managed to "create" a marine version of the blood parrot. Perhaps tehy used teh blackbelt instead of teh quetzel. hrm, something to ponder....
