I have a 55g tank right now that I'm using for cichlids. When I move I was thinking about going with a basic marine setup. My freshwater tank is pretty basic.. Just has a plexi glass top I cut and made for it, and a basic filter. Could someone list what equipment and stuff I'd need to buy to make the 55g into a salt water tank? I'm trying to figure out how much money I'd be looking at.

Right may I first welcom you to the salty side!

A 55g set up price is a hard one because it depends one what you want from the tank. eg. lights you could got for fish only so you'll need T8@ 25 a pop for bulb and balleset. However is your aiming for a full SPS reef you looking at Metal Halides @120-300 a pop for bulbs and ballests.

What I'm trying to say is if you draw up a list of what you want to keep then base your equipment choises on that it would make it easyer to get you the right equipment for the job.

Also it would be a good ider to set yourself a budget.

It would most likely just be some fish. Whatever fish would do ok in a 55g and still look nice. My tank will only be setup for about 2 years so I dont want tons of coral.rock, etc.

If only for 2 years taking into account that the water prams take a year to settle out, sorry for being blunt but whats the point? Might aswell wait till you can build tha system you want knoing it will have a long life. Might aswell do a nano tht way if things chang is not a PITA to move.
