Salt bath for plants..

When I do go get my plants, I read somewhere that you should give the plants a salt bath to kill any harbouring snails...is this recommended?
Also read that some people disinfect their plants..is this needed?
How would you do either of these things?

Never heard of it.

I have heard of a bath in a 19 part water/1 part bleach solution, though.
